Who We Are

WRi is a unique international research group specializing in research and policy development relating to wilderness and wild land.

The Institute has a dedicated core team of around 15 interdisciplinary researchers and many more contacts and associates working on the different dimensions of wilderness and wild land worldwide. The Institute has strategic links with national and international bodies including the Wildland Network, European Wilderness Society, Wild Europe, the Centre for Mountain Studies, the Scottish Wild Land Group, the John Muir Trust, the Wilderness Foundation, the Aldo Leopold Wilderness Research Institute and the European Nature Trust.

Together we provide a unique skill set focusing on wild land and wilderness including GIS mapping and spatial modelling, participatory approaches, programming and tool development, decision support, policy advice, social science, critical thought and analysis.
